Three Voter Universes to Target Before Election Day

Haystaq’s pre-defined and custom GOTV, registration, and persuasion universes can help you maximize your campaign’s impact leading up to the midterms.

As we approach the midterm elections, HaystaqDNA remains firmly committed to helping progressive candidates and organizations. Our unique host of models and services (including phone and email appends, donor look-alike modeling, and custom microtargeting) can help give campaigns the boost they need to cross the finish line victorious in November. This month, we’d like to highlight a few voter universes that may be of particular interest in the final month before the midterms.

a block-level view of actual voters in the three universes we will highlight in this newsletter: GOTV (blue), Unregistered Likely Liberals (yellow), and Persuadable Republicans (pink). Street names have been removed for the privacy of the voters shown.

Universe 1: Democratic GOTV

The first of these is our classic Get Out The Vote (GOTV) universe – voters in this category are likely to be Democratic voters, but may need an extra reminder to get to the polls. We have 21.5 million records in the GOTV universe, with our highest density of GOTV voters in New York County (Manhattan), New York. With millions of phone numbers and addresses on file, reaching out to these voters is never a bad idea in the late stages of a campaign. Click here on our national map below to explore!

The classic GOTV universe is based on modeled partisanship and past vote history.  With hundreds of issue and attitudinal scores available (see our guide here!), we can also find more specific GOTV universes that best fit a candidate’s messaging in the final weeks. And our non-presidential-year turnout scores make it possible to fine-tune the size of these universes.

Universe 2: Unregistered Likely Democrats

We also have unregistered likely liberal voters: these are voters that have not registered to vote, but are still present in our commercial data and assigned scores from our models. Potential voters that are modeled as highly likely to support progressive causes and candidates are a worthwhile target for voter registration campaigns, particularly in states with more flexible voter registration laws. We have 18.7 million of these potential voters scattered across the country (please note that our records don’t contain any information related to eligibility). Click on our national map to explore!

Universe 3: Disillusioned Republicans

Finally, a key demographic this election cycle is Republicans who have become disillusioned with the false promises of the Trump administration and Republican politicians. While frustration may come from a number of sources, one of the key ones right now is the economy: with rising prices, stagnant wages, and one of the worst job markets since the aftermath of The Great Recession, millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet. We built our disillusioned Republican universe from Republican voters who were flagged as highly likely to experience high economic anxiety or to report that their purchasing decisions were impacted by affordability (check out our full model descriptions here).  Under the current economy, many of the 217 million voters that meet these criteria could potentially be persuaded to vote for Democratic candidates with real plans to improve their lives. One notable hotspot is in Florida, where Angie Nixon’s Senate race has gained national attention. Click on our county map to explore!

Haystaq can help you home in on voters in your area that are in these key target universes. With hundreds of models and commercial indicators, we can also help you find other universes that meet the specific needs of your campaign, from likely donors to environmental causes to voters likely to strongly oppose Israel’s military actions (check out these scores and more in our guide). Whoever your target audience is, Haystaq can help you find them and secure their crucial votes for the fast approaching midterms.
