At Haystaq, we’re excited to introduce several new models we are adding to our suite this year. Among these new models are the Trump Tariff Model, Musk Approval, updated Trump vs. Harris scores, Mass Deportations, DEI, New Inflation Fault, Podcast Listener, Crypto Buyers, and DOGE.

This month, we’re spotlighting our upcoming Trump Tariff Model, built to uncover how voters are reacting to one of the most pressing economic issues in today’s political landscape. These models are specifically designed to help you understand how voters feel about Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. With some retailers considering showing the tariff tax on product receipts, this shift in transparency could spark new conversations about the economic impact of tariffs at the consumer level.

Here’s an early look at our findings from one of our survey questions:

When asked:

“Donald Trump is proposing large tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. Do you support or oppose these tariffs?”

Respondents answered:

Unsure: 6.8%
Strongly Support: 15.3%
Somewhat Support: 15.9%
Somewhat Oppose: 13.7%
Strongly Oppose: 48.3%

Note, this is not a scientific poll. Instead, it is our annual gathering of data from nearly 20,000 individuals, from which we create our national issue models.

Nearly half of all respondents strongly oppose the tariff policy. The data show that opposition to Trump’s tariffs is more common among respondents, with 48.31% of individuals selecting Strongly Oppose and 13.71% selecting Somewhat Oppose. The dominant sentiment of disapproval suggests that the tariff policy is highly unpopular. Just 6.82% of respondents were unsure—and nearly 80% of those were women, highlighting a key demographic that may be more open to persuasion.
