Farmers and Working Class Voters

Rural communities and farmers overwhelmingly supported Trump in the last election.  However, his policies—including tariff threats, cuts to agricultural subsidies, and rollbacks on rural healthcare funding—are creating new economic pressures for these very voters.

Among the nearly 250,000 voters who are farmers, our data showed they supported Trump over Harris by a 5-to-1 margin. USAID has long played a crucial role in supporting American farmers by funding agricultural development programs, disaster relief, and export opportunities that help stabilize rural economies and sustain livelihoods. With its shuttering, farmers now face increased uncertainty about future funding. We can help you reach these voters and mobilize them to push back.

Working class voters were lured in by Trump’ s promises to lower costs, yet, as costs rise and the American taxpayer pays the price of Trump’s ever-impending tariffs, these voters will feel the sting of his economic policy. Harris outperformed Trump among voters experiencing economic anxiety—of the 41 million voters we identified as economically anxious, only 8.3 million supported him. This presents an opportunity to engage them with targeted messaging that addresses these concerns.

We have identified over 51 million voters who believe economic inequality is a serious issue. As President Trump pushes for one of the largest tax cuts for the wealthy in history, his close ties with Elon Musk signal a self-serving agenda driven by political and financial gain. These voters are primed for engagement—now is the time to reach them with messaging that highlights the real economic consequences of his policies.

Rural America is where these challenges converge. Farmers struggling with rising costs and the loss of USAID support, working-class voters burdened by tariffs and economic instability, and those who value public lands facing park closures and environmental threats—all share common frustrations. These voters were key to Trump’s victories, but his policies have left them behind. This is where organizations must focus their efforts, connecting with these communities through data-driven outreach that speaks directly to their concerns. Winning in rural America is essential to shifting the political landscape.
